Oba of Lagos, Oba Akiolu at 78

We, Isale Eko Descendants Union, heartily congratulate His Royal Majesty, Oba of Lagos, Alaiyeluwa Oba Riliwanu Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu on his 78th Birthday.
Kabiyesi, Oba Akiolu, Akiolu 1, was born on 29th October, 1943. An urbane and knowledgeable monarch, His Majesty is an alumnus of Ansar-Ud-Deen Grammar School, Surulere as well as a graduate of Law from the University of Lagos. He was an officer of the Nigeria Police Force for 32 years and rose to the position of an Assistant Inspector- General of Police in 1999. He was crowned the 21st Oba of Lagos on 24th May, 2003 succeeding Oba Adeyinka Oyekan, who reigned from 1965-1st March, 2003, before joining his ancestors at the age of 91.
Oba Akiolu is known for his generosity, frankness, and courage, hence his reign has impacted positively on the lives and well-being of the people of Isale Eko and its environs. He has also been in the forefront of the campaign to return properties belonging to indigenes of Lagos which are presently in the possession of the Federal Government.
Oba Akiolu is very close to history and in fact has the history of Lagos, as well as its environs and people in his palm.
We therefore wish Kabiyesi, Alaiyeluwa Oba Akiolu, a memorable birthday. Ki Ade Pe Lori, Ki Bata Pe Lese.

Isale Eko Descendants’ Union Pays Tribute to Late Alhaji Mikhail Adisa Bashua, S.A.N., C.O.N.
We hereby announce the passing of an illustrious and eminent indigene of Isale Eko, Alhaji Mikhail Adisa Bashua, S.A.N., C.O.N.
He was aged 91. M.A. Bashua, as he was fondly and popularly known, was an upright, patriotic and erudite legal practitioner. An illustrious Son of Isale Eko. Alhaji M.A. Bashua was not only proud of his Isale Eko heritage, but he also worked for the growth, development and general wellbeing of the people. He was close to the community.
Born on 30th December, 1930, in Isale Eko, Alhaji M.A. Bashua was called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn, London, in 1960, and founded the law firm of M.A. Bashua & Co., in 1968. He was elected to the House of Representatives to represent Lagos Island in 1962. He took the silk as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 1997 and was awarded the national honour of Commander of the Order of Niger in 2008.
He has been buried according to Islamic rites. He’ll be sorely missed.
